Hear from Cedric Simmons
I can’t think of an opening month for the Hornets quite like this November.

The highs.

The lows.

The streaks.

The slumps.

The expected.

The unexpected.

The career highs.

The career lows.

Despite the unpredictable roller coaster the Hornets rode in their first 30 days of the season, and despite the debilitating injuries to David West, Peja Stojakovic, and Marc Jackson, it was still on the whole an amazing, record-filled start to the season.

THE START

The Hornets set a franchise record with their best start ever (4-0). They are the last NBA team to lose a game this season.

THE ROAD

The Hornets start (2-0) on the road, their best start away from home in six seasons. Their nine road games in November is more than in any other month this season.

THE SHOT

Peja Stojakovic beats the T-Wolves in Minneapolis with a last second trey.

THE BOARD MAN

Tyson Chandler plays 14 games in November and grabs 10 or more rebounds 11 times! He has offensive rebounds in every game.

THE DEFENDER

Desmond Mason accepts his new role as the team’s top defender. In November he has to concentrate on stopping Pierce, Jackson, McGrady, Richardson, Prince, and Marion.

THE GAME

Peja Stojakovic beats the Bobcats in Oklahoma City with a career-best 42 point effort.

THE LEADER

Chris Paul leads the team in scoring, assists and steals and doesn’t miss a game.

THE SIXTH MAN

Bobby Jackson steps right in as the top bench performer, scoring inside and outside and providing veteran leadership. He hits double figures in 11 of 15 games in November.

THE STEP UP

Rookie Hilton Armstrong makes his first NBA start in Motown and does his best to remind Detroit why they aren’t as good without Ben Wallace as he pours in 17 points, grabs 9 rebounds and hits the game-winning free throw in the closing seconds of the game.

THE ROOKIE

Cedric Simmons, the youngest Hornet at just 20 years of age, picked up Byron Scott’s system immediately and joined the rotation ahead of schedule. He leads the team in blocked shots. (Listen to “Grasshopper” on our LichtCast)

THE DOUBLE FIGURE MAN

Chris Paul records either double figure points, double figure assists, or both, in all 15 games in November.

The Hornets endured adversity in November to finish 8-7, one game better than last season.

Imagine the possibilities in December if West and Stojakovic regain their health.
