NEWS AND NOTES:
Quentin Richardson made three three-pointers last Saturday night, giving him 238 for his three-year career. Richardson has moved past Pooh Richardson (235 threes) and into sole possession of fifth place on the franchise’s all-time three-point chart. He’s hit 11 threes in the last five games and, with 20 games left in the season, second place on the list is only 24 threes away. Ron Harper (1989-94) holds down fourth place with 248 threes. Brent Barry (1995-98) is third with 257 triples and Terry Dehere (1993-97) is second with 262 threes. Eric Piatkowski is the Clippers’ all-time three-point leader with 709 threes heading into this week.
The Clippers’ longest road trip of the season continues this week. The trip is a six-game, 11-day journey that includes two games each against the Atlantic, Central and Midwest divisions. The Clippers have never won in Monday's venue, Atlanta’s Phillips Arena, in three tries nor have they won in San Antonio’s brand new SBC Center, losing 97-84 in their only visit on Dec. 13. The Clippers won in their only visit to Houston’s Compaq Center, which is in its final season as an NBA arena. L.A.’s 94-83 road win over the Rockets on Dec. 14 was its third win in Houston in the last five trips. Four opponents on this road trip: Boston, Chicago, Houston and San Antonio; have combined to win 12 of the last 22 NBATitles.
Over the last three weeks, Corey Maggette has led the team in the scoring column eight times and is averaging 19.6 points over that stretch. Maggette is second on the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game, which is 5.5 points better than last season’s 11.4 career-best average.
